Changes to the Barclays Mobile Phone Insurance Policy
- 1st September 2011
We regularly review our current accounts to ensure they still meet our
customers’ needs. Recently, we have also had to take into consideration
increases in the cost of the benefits that come with your account, as well as
the rise in VAT.
In addition to these changes, some of the benefits included with your account
are being modified.
These FAQ’s should help with any immediate questions.
1. What is changing?
For all incidents which occur on or after 1st September 2011 the excess on
claims for all iPhone models will increase. The excess varies depending on the
mobile phone you claim for and how many claims you have made within a 12 month
period:
-
For the first claim, if it is for an Apple iPhone the excess is £75, and for
all other handsets it is £25.
-
For the second claim (made within a 12 month period), if it is for an Apple
iPhone the excess is £100, and for all other handsets it is £50.
2. Why is the excess increasing?
The technology used within mobile phone handsets has rapidly improved over
recent times, and as a result the value of these handsets has increased. These
changes are in line with recent changes made by other mobile phone insurance
providers.
3. Why is the iPhone excess higher?
The iPhone is one of the most expensive phones to repair or replace, so this is
why the iPhone excess is higher.
4. When does this come into effect?
The change is effective for incidents occurring on or after the 1st September
2011.
5. What happens if my claim is already in progress?
If the incident occurred before the 1st September, and your claim is successful,
you will pay the previous £25 excess for the first claim, or £50 for the second
claim. Only if you claim for an incident which occurs on or after the 1st
September will the higher excess amount apply.
6. What do I do if I am not happy about this change?
If you are not happy with this change to your account, and would like to discuss
other account options, please visit your local Barclays branch.
7. Where can I find the other terms and conditions of my mobile phone
insurance?
